Just over 24 hours after the Washington Huskies picked up a crystal ball prediction from Brandon Huffman to land a commitment from four-star offensive tackle Rashaun Lavata’i, the Rivals recruiting analyst made a change, and now, he’s projecting the fast-rising prospect will choose the Washington State Cougars.
The 6-foot-6, 270-pound in-state product of Curtis High School in Tacoma, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 118 overall prospect in the 2027 class and No. 9 offensive tackle by Rivals, took an official visit to see first-year coach Kirby Moore’s program on May 29 before trips to Utah on June 12, Washington on June 16, and Oregon State on June 18, with a decision seemingly imminent.
While the Huskies have practically every advantage over the Cougars from an institutional and program standpoint in the Big Ten, there’s one thing that Jedd Fisch’s program may not be able to offer that WSU can.

With many players searching for a route to the field early on in their careers to prove themselves, the Huskies presumably can’t offer a quick route to the field at tackle, with Kodi Greene and John Mills seemingly cemented as the bookends of offensive line coach Michael Switzer’s unit in 2027, and Sam Houston State transfer Kolt Dieterich as the swing option.
For Lavata’i, whose frame has significant room to add weight, Washington’s coaching staff would most likely be content letting him take a backseat and develop for a year, potentially two, before competing for a spot in the rotation. Playing at a lower level in the new-look Pac-12 may present the opportunity for him not to need to gain as much weight before seeing the field.
The Huskies hold only one commit along the offensive line in four-star center Reis Russell, but Switzer holds two other crystal balls from Huffman to add four-star interior prospect Gecova Doyal and three-star tackle Tye Kennedy.
