There are some Connecticut High School Football Alliance games on the schedule this weekend, with the biggest local game being New Canaan at New Britain on Friday.
New Britain, which has had a very tough schedule to open the season, struggled in its first Alliance game two weeks ago, in a 35-7 loss to Greenwich, the Class LL champion. This week, the Hurricanes take on an even tougher opponent in New Canaan, last year’s Class L champion which is currently No. 1 in The Day’s state coaches poll.
Here are some games to watch this week:
New Canaan (3-0) at New Britain (2-1), Friday, 6 p.m.: The parade of champions continues in New Britain as New Canaan – which has outscored its opponents 123-0 in its first three games – comes to town. New Britain eked out a 21-20 win over Maloney last week. Quarterback Billy Seymour has rushed for 371 yards and five touchdowns for the Hurricanes.
Maloney (1-2) at Conard (2-1), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Conard will try to regroup after a close loss to East Hartford and Maloney will be doing the same after losing 21-20 to New Britain. Conard quarterback Henry Tamaccio had a 40-yard touchdown pass to Graham Lamoureux in the third quarter and a 50-yard pass to Lamoureux late in the fourth quarter but East Hartford’s defense stopped Conard from scoring from the 5-yard line.
CT High School Football Week 3: After record-setter last season, East Hartford’s defense shows up
Platt (3-0) at Sheehan (2-1), Friday, 6:30 p.m.: Sheehan will look to get back on track after losing to Fairfield Prep 34-14 while Platt, which beat Bristol Central last week, looks to continue its win streak. Platt senior quarterback Austen Standish has completed 27 of 46 attempts for 464 yards and three touchdowns and has rushed for 364 yards and seven touchdowns. For Sheehan, Zack O’Brien has rushed for 398 yards and five TDs and quarterback Tyler Costanzo has rushed for four touchdowns and thrown two.
Tolland (3-0) at Plainville (3-0), Friday, 6 p.m.: Tolland beat Bloomfield last week for the first time in 15 years and will take on unbeaten Plainville next. Senior RB JC Gonzalez leads the Eagles with 475 yards on 63 carries and has scored five touchdowns.
