Curt Cignetti has been talking a lot since taking over as the head coach of Indiana’s football program. Indiana’s head coach has backed it up, too. The Hoosiers made the College Football Playoff in Year 1 and won the national championship in Year 2.
The former James Madison University head coach said that he felt that by winning the national title, there’s been a paradigm shift.
“People can cling to an old way of thinking, categorizing teams as this or that or conferences as this or that,” Cignetti said on ESPN, “or they can adjust to the new world, the shift in the power dynamic in college football today.”
But some are skeptical. Can Cignetti really replicate what he’s done at Indiana moving forward? Can the Hoosiers continue to hit big on players like Fernando Mendoza (a former two-star recruit)?
Surely, teams like Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, etc. will take back control of the Big Ten Conference, right?
Cignetti feels differently, of course.
The veteran college football head coach, who’s 64 years old, is here to stay. That’s what he says, anyway.
Cignetti issued a clear “warning” to the college football world after his national title win: he’s only going to be more motivated from here.
Watch out, college football world
Cignetti will get offers to do commercials, endorsements, speaking engagements and more following his national title.
He’s planning to say no to all of them.
Cignetti is warning the entire sport: he likes to win and that’s all he’s focused on.
“I like what I do, I like winning. I don’t plan on changing very much,” he warned following the national title.
