Curt Cignetti wins second consecutive Big Ten Coach of the Year award

No. 2 Indiana football head coach Curt Cignetti was named the winner of both the Hayes-Schembechler and Dave McClain Big Ten Coach of the Year awards on Wednesday. The Hayes-Schembechler award is voted on by the league’s coaches and the McClain award is voted on by the league’s associated media.

It’s the second straight win for both awards by Cignetti, who led a dramatic turnaround of the program en route to an 11-1 regular season and a berth in the first 12-team College Football Playoff last season. He one-upped that this season, leading the Hoosiers to a perfect 12-0 record in the regular season, a bid in this year’s Big Ten Football Championship game and all but certainly one of the top seeds in the playoff.

He currently sits at 23-2 as Indiana’s head coach, a remarkable achievement given the program’s history in the Big Ten.

Cignetti and Indiana will be back in action on Saturday, taking on No. 1 Ohio State for the Big Ten title at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
