CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney said the defensive pass interference call in the final minute of the Tigers' 46-45 loss was one of the worst he's ever seen.
"It shouldn’t come down to that. We had plenty of opportunity to win the game, but that’s one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen in my entire coaching career. Ever," Swinney said Nov. 1.
On fourth-and-10 with 49 seconds left in the game, Duke quarterback Darian Mensah threw an incomplete pass to Que'Sean Brown at Memorial Stadium.
However, officials called defensive pass interference on cornerback Avieon Terrell, who was hand fighting with Brown, that extended the drive and allowed Duke to score a touchdown and a game-winning two-point conversion.
Clemson has lost six straight home games against power-conference teams for the first time since the 1970-71 seasons. The Tigers will finish with a losing record at home for the first time since 1998.
"This is a low of lows," Swinney said.
