Dabo Swinney Still Sounds Lost on Clemson's QB Situation

The Clemson Tigers defeated Georgia Southern by a score of 22-7 on Saturday night in an ugly affair, and while the process to get there wasn't what anyone wanted to see, Clemson did manage to get into the win column.

The Tigers also had a change at quarterback in the process, even if it was unplanned.

Christopher Vizzina left the game after three series due to an arm injury, giving way to freshman Tait Reynolds, who went 16-for-27 with 178 yards while also carrying the ball 14 times for 38 yards.

Neither quarterback was particularly impressive in the affair, and when asked about the situation under center after the game, head coach Dabo Swinney didn't seem to have an answer outside of saying that Reynolds made some progress.

“I think he made a move tonight, I really do,” Swinney said of Reynolds. “He did some gritty things. … He’s just got that ability to erase some mistakes. But he also has got to clean up some things. And CV did some good things, but the interception was just a really bad play. … Those are routine things.

"So, there were some things that he can clean up for sure. But he had three series, that was it. So, just didn’t get much more than that. But again, there was good and bad with Tait, and we’ll watch the tape. I think here’s a lot to build on."

Clearly, Swinney does not know who his quarterback actually is at the moment, and while it does sound like Vizzina will get another shot against North Carolina next week so long as he is healthy, there is no way Swinney feels good about it.

Vizzina went 4-for-7 with 19 yards, a touchdown and a pick before exiting. Considering how poorly he played Week 1 against LSU, he has done absolutely nothing to cement his status as QB1 moving forward.

Swinney has been criticized for failing to land a quarterback in the transfer portal over the winter, and now, you're seeing why.

Perhaps the two-time national championship-winning coach is now regretting his decision, as it seems pretty obvious that he doesn't think there is a definitive solution at the moment.

And if we're being honest, Clemson as a team was wholly unimpressive on Saturday evening, so how much confidence should anyone actually have in the Tigers against the Tar Heels next weekend?
