Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks struggled in their 2026 season opener, narrowly defeating the Boise State Broncos.
Oregon mounted a second-half comeback to win 34-27, but it was a sloppy performance for one of the best teams in the country.
With their loss, the Ducks have dropped from second to sixth in the nation. Oregon still has a talented roster and can contend for the National Championship, but they will need to clean up their play.
In the game, the Ducks muffed a punt and had 10 penalties. It was a very rough game for Oregon, as they trailed at halftime, but they showed some flashes of what the team could look like at full strength.
The offense put up 497 yards of offense, with quarterback Dante Moore proving he will be a contender to win the Heisman Trophy, as he completed 28 of 37 passes for 378 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
He could've been one of the top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, but he returned to the Ducks, giving them a legitimate shot to compete for a National Championship this season.
Moore showcased how many weapons Oregon has, as he spread it out to many weapons, as Jeremiah McClellan has six receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown, Dakorien Moore had six receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown, Evan Stewart had eight receptions for 72 yards, and Jamari Johnson had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.
The Ducks were also strong in the run game, as running back Jordon Davison rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. The offense performed at a high level in the second half, proving they could be one of the best units in the country.
On defense, Oregon generated some pass rush, as Matayo Uiagalelei, Bear Alexander, and Teitum Tuioti all had a sack.
Lanning and the Ducks will look to bounce back, put together a strong performance in Week 2 against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, and execute at a higher level to move up the rankings.
