Dave Abberger steps down as Holland Christian football coach

Dave Abberger has stepped down as head football coach at Holland Christian.

Abberger made the announcement on social media on Friday, Nov. 21.

“Today I stepped down as the Head Football Coach at Holland Christian HS. I’m grateful for the extended offer to remain in the role, but believe now is the right time,” Abberger wrote. “I’ll be helping our AD through the transition as I can and will continue supporting our seniors as they navigate their college opportunities.”

Abberger was the head coach of the Maroons for three years, following one year as an assistant.

“The many memories on the field with our players will always stay with me, and it’s a joy to watch them continue their journeys—whether competing in college or stepping into the workforce,” he wrote. “To our parents and the HC community—thank you for your support. It has been an incredible honor to serve our players, and I will always love and support them.

“Our coaches gave everything and helped lead this team to back-to-back playoff appearances.”

Coach Dave Abberger gets his team organized during practice on August 19.

Abberger was 15-14 as Maroons head coach, leading the team to the playoffs the past two seasons.

This season, the team was 5-5.
