The Tennessee Volunteers picked up another defensive back commitment on Monday night, pulling Slim Leavell out of the midstate. The 6-0, 165 pound athlete is out of Madison, playing for Goodpasture Christian.
Leavell announced his decision on social media.
The 3-star athlete is ranked as the 28th overall prospect in the state of Tennessee. He ranks 604th nationally, according to 247Sports. The multi-sport athlete started on both sides of the ball last season for Goodpasture, playing receiver and cornerback. Leavell added 35 catches for over 700 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also grabbing four interceptions.
Leavell committed to Tennessee over Clemson, Florida, Florida State and N.C. State. Co-Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach Anthony Poindexter was the lead recruiter here for the Volunteers. Leavell was on campus twice during the spring, including the orange and white game, which helped get Tennessee over the finish line.
It’s currently the eighth commitment of Tennessee’s 2027 class. Leavell joins 3-star safety Jaden Butler and 3-star cornerback Carter Jamison in the current group as Tennessee’s new-look defensive staff begins to add some of their own prospects.
Leavell will begin his official visit in Knoxville on Thursday. He had officials lined up with Florida State, Florida, Purdue and N.C. State. It remains to be seen if those following visits will be taken.
