Deion Sanders, Colorado Lose Coach After Disappointing College Football Season

The Colorado football program has lost a coach to the NFL.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is joining the Denver Broncos as their defensive passing game coordinator. He has been Colorado’s defensive coordinator for the past two seasons before taking this job.

Before joining Colorado, Livingston spent 11 years with the Cincinnati Bengals. He joined the Bengals in 2012 as a scout and held that role through 2014 before the Bengals promoted him to defensive quality control coach in 2015. He held that role for one season before becoming the secondary/safeties coach from 2016 to 23.

He’ll now get to head back to the NFL and coach under Sean Payton.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanderswasted no time in naming a replacement, promoting Chris Marve to defensive coordinator. Marve worked at Virginia Tech for three seasons (2022 to 2024) as the program’s defensive coordinator before joining Colorado this year as linebackers coach. He’ll now be the signal caller on the defensive side of the ball.

Sanders hopes to have a much better season in 2026 than in 2025. The Buffaloes finished this past season with a 3-9 record after going 9-4 in 2024. He has been the head coach for three seasons, compiling a 16-21 overall record.

The Buffaloes will open the 2026 season on Sept. 3 against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The game will be on the road before they come home to play the Weber State Wildcats on Sept. 12.
