Deion Sanders did not have an ideal ending to his third season with the Colorado Buffaloes. The team went just 3-9, marking its worst record since he took over as head coach in 2023. The Buffaloes’ only Big 12 win came against the Iowa State Cyclones.
Now, Sanders enters the offseason looking to recapture the success he found in 2024, when his team finished 9-4. He has turned to the transfer portal, having already landed 26 commitments.
Demetrius Hunter, a 6-foot-2 and 310-pound interior offensive lineman, began his career with the Houston Cougars. However, after four years, he decided it was time for a change of scenery.
As a redshirt freshman in 2023, he didn’t see much playing time. In back-to-back seasons (2024 and 2025), he appeared in 12 games for the Cougars. In 2024, he allowed no sacks or quarterback hits in 345 opportunities.
Coming out of high school, he was a three-star recruit, the No. 33 interior offensive lineman and the No. 451 player in the nation. He chose Houston over the Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma Sooners, Missouri Tigers and Oklahoma State Cowboys.
With one more year of eligibility, though, he will finish his career in Boulder. On Wednesday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Hunter chose the Buffaloes.
“BREAKING: Houston transfer OL Demetrius Hunter has committed to Colorado, @PeteNakos reports,” an X post read.

He is the fourth offensive lineman the Buffaloes have landed. Sanders has also received commitments from offensive tackles Bo Hughley (Georgia Bulldogs), Jayven Richardson (Missouri) and Taj White (Rutgers Scarlet Knights). Last season, Colorado quarterbacks were sacked a total of 38 times.
