Deion Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes were unable to build off their strong 9-4 season in 2024, as the Buffs finished this season with a 3-9 record headlined by a month-long losing streak.
While Sanders has made it a priority to build his roster through the transfer portal, sharks from other programs have begun circling in Boulder. Despite promising significant changes and pumping out constant confidence that he can turn things around, Sanders and his Colorado squad lost two of their best players on Wednesday.
As revealed by On3, both star wide receiver Omarion Miller and safety Tawfiq Byard are expected to enter their names into the transfer portal.
Starting with Miller, the former four-star recruit led the team in all major receiving categories, racking up 45 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. He was expected to be a major benefactor of Colorado hiring offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, who helped guide notable names like Jordan Addison (Pitt) and Xavier Worthy (Texas) to career years.
As for Byard, he joined the program last offseason by way of USF. He led the team in tackles with 79, while also posting four pass deflections and one interception.
While Sanders isn’t on the hot seat by any means, clearly, other programs are taking advantage of Colorado’s struggles.
The college football transfer portal officially opens on Jan. 2, but nearly 800 players have already announced intentions to transfer.
