Deion Sanders isn't entertaining any conversations about an NFL move.
Speculation swirled about the Hall of Famer seeking a new job away from college football after Colorado went 9-4 in 2024. That successful season aligned with his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, searching for a new head coach to replace Mike McCarthy.
Sanders ultimately stayed with the Buffaloes, who went 3-9 in his third season. When asked about the old rumors by Baker Machado of Front Office Sports, Coach Prime insisted that he never considered an NFL gig and remains committed to Colorado.
"They weren't real at all," Sanders said of past NFL rumors. "I like playing the pro game, but I wouldn't enjoy coaching the pro game. It's a different game. I'm focused on winning and getting these kids through college so they have degrees and they're able to attain tremendous professions, even after football is over. But I have no thought process of the NFL whatsoever."
Sanders lays out Colorado goals for 2026
Colorado took a massive leap in Sanders' second season, only to backtrack significantly without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in 2025. They only won one Big 12 matchup and allowed a ghastly 425.7 yards per game.
Sanders responded by hiring Brennan Marion as his new offensive coordinator and Chris Marve as his defensive coordinator. The former cornerback praised his new staff while setting high expectations for a 2026 rebound.
"We're gonna win, and we gotta win," Sanders said. "We have the best coaching staff that I've ever been a part of in my coaching career."
Coach Prime again hit the transfer portal hard, landing big additions such as Texas wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. and Tennessee defensive back Boo Carter. Sanders is confident that his new players will make an immediate impact.
"When they sat in front of me, I felt like they were the guys that can take us back to where we belong," Sanders said. "And we have some good young men on that team."
He celebrated his players setting a new benchmark for the highest GPA of any Colorado football team and praised their commitment to the game.
"These guys (are) not only smart, but they can play the game and they want to play the game," he said. "And they're not just there for a check."
