Deion Sanders dismissed multiple Colorado players after recent loss

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders said Tuesday that several players are no longer with the program following the Buffs' 41-7 loss at Northwestern.

"There's a few guys who aren't on the team anymore," Sanders said during his weekly news conference.

Sanders did not identify the players, but said the dismissals involved recurring conduct detrimental to the team. He added that he is taking a firmer approach to accountability than he did last season.

The comments arrived three days after Sanders expressed frustration over seeing some Colorado players laughing after the Northwestern loss. Sanders said after the game that he addressed the behavior directly and planned to "put my foot in it, not on it."

Sanders says leaders sought accountability

Sanders said some of Colorado's team leaders have helped address the issue, asking Coach Prime who might be next among players who could be dismissed.

Coach Prime has not taken this type of action in previous seasons. Sanders described a continuing pattern of behavior that the Buffs have addressed internally as Colorado prepares for its Big 12 opener at Baylor.

Colorado is 2-1 following the loss at Northwestern and will face Baylor on Saturday in Waco.

Ben Finneseth apologizes for Northwestern comments

Defensive back Ben Finneseth joined Sanders at Tuesday's podium and apologized for his comments caught on camera that went viral before Saturday's game, in which he criticized and yelled obscene words regarding Northwestern's temporary stadium environment.

"I just want to apologize to you guys, to everyone that's tied in with the university, to everyone at Northwestern," Finneseth said.

Sanders did not publicly connect Finneseth's comments with the player dismissals, and he did not name the players who were laughing after the loss. His comments Tuesday made it clear that he views the behavior in Evanston as unacceptable after the 34-point defeat.
