Deion Sanders Makes 'Promise' Amid Disappointing 2025 Season

There's been a certain feeling of dread surrounding the Colorado football program lately. Between their three-game losing stream and the recent announcement that AD Rick George is leaving at the end of the year, fans are understandably worried that head coach Deion Sanders may be on borrowed time in Boulder.

But Coach Prime is not giving up the fight. Far from it if he's to be believed. Speaking to the media today, Sanders declared that he is "the right man" for the job and promised to prove it moving forward. He asked "a little more time" so he can prove it to everyone.

“Please understand, if anybody is built for adversity, I am,” Sanders said. “If anybody is built for change, I am. If anybody is built to overcome situations and trials and tribulations, I am. You’ve got the right man. I promise you, you do. And I’m going to prove that to you. I am. Just give me an opportunity and a little more time and I’m going to prove that to you. I will. I promise you that.”

In his first year at Colorado, Sanders injected new life but only a few wins into the program. They went just 4-8, losing their last six games in a row to miss bowl eligibility.

But in 2024 the team found its stride, going 9-3 in the regular season for its highest win total in years. Star wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy and the team finished ranked No. 25 in the country.

Unfortunately, the team has regressed in 2025 due to the loss of Hunter and QB Shedeur Sanders. Quarterback issues have plagued the team and they endured a two-game stretch where they were outscored 105-24.

Suffice it to say, Coach Prime has a lot of proving to do.

The silver lining might be that it's simply too costly to fire Sanders right now. He makes $10 million per year and has a $33 million buyout. Colorado has far more incentives to keep giving Sanders time than to start from scratch.
