Deion Sanders remains Colorado football's biggest recruiting draw

Colorado football’s latest hype video offered a simple reminder that head coach Deion Sanders is still the one selling Boulder. Even after a 3-9 season, the Buffs continue to attract players who believe Colorado can help them reach the next level.

The video featured several of Colorado’s newest players, including wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., cornerback Cree Thomas, receiver Danny Scudero and linebacker Gideon Lampron. Their message was clear. Colorado is still a place where players can develop, get noticed and learn from one of the most recognizable figures in American football history.

Moore opened the clip by comparing Sanders to Michael Jordan, calling him one of the few figures whose success is in a class of its own. Thomas added that the chance to play for “the greatest player in your position ever” was reason enough to come to Boulder.

That kind of reaction has become part of Colorado football’s identity under Coach Prime. Even when the wins have not always followed, the brand and the coaching staff still carry real weight on the recruiting trail.

Why transfers come to Boulder

The players in the video also talked more about opportunity than hype. Scudero, who led the nation in receiving yards at San Jose State last season, said coming to Colorado helped raise his game. Lampron said the challenge of helping bring the program back made the decision more appealing.

While the 2025 season was no doubt a setback, perhaps a silver lining was the ability for the recruiting staff to lean into the message of bringing the program back after a down year. The Buffs want players who believe the spotlight in Boulder will make them better, not distract them.

Looking back at 2024

The video also made room for a reminder of what Colorado looked like when the program skyrocketed under Sanders. Highlights of Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, LaJohntay Wester and Jimmy Horn Jr. were mixed in as a nod to the team’s recent peak in 2024.

The 3-9 finish last season was a definite setback, but it has not changed the belief around the program. Colorado appears determined to reset quickly, and its newest players seem convinced Boulder is still the right place to do it.
