Things have been going less than well in Boulder so far this year, and at long last, Deion Sanders is calling for a change.
On Tuesday, news broke that the Colorado Buffaloes are making a change on the offensive side of the ball, with Coach Prime removing play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's plate. This decision comes after a pair of blowout losses, in which the Buffs were outscored 105-24 by the Utah Utes and Arizona Wildcats.
According to a report from USA TODAY, Sanders stripped the play-calling duties from Shurmur following the loss to Utah. According to the report, Colorado tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Brett Bartolone has called plays instead of Shurmur since the Utah game.
Earlier this week, Sanders hinted at a potential coaching change when talking to the media.
“I might have already changed it, and you don’t know,” Sanders said. “I don’t do stuff and blow the whistles and make major announcements.”
While the offensive production has certainly been a problem for Colorado this season, the defense is struggling as well, giving up 53 and 52 points, respectively, to both Utah and Arizona. We will see if more coaching changes come on that side of the ball, and what the fallout from this change with Shurmur is over the course of the season.
