Prior to kickoff for the College Football Playoff National Championship, ESPN's "College GameDay" previewed Monday night's showdown between Miami and Indiana.
ESPN's Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban offered their expert analysis on the final game of the 2025 college football season. They had Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman on the show as this week's guest picker. He filled in admirably for Kirk Herbstreit, who is in the booth calling the Miami-Indiana game alongside Chris Fowler.
While discussing Miami's run to the national championship game, Howard mentioned multiple times that he lives in the Sunshine State. He also made a "Hurricane warning" comment that didn't sit well with the public.
In fact, countless fans complained about Howard's commentary on Monday night.
"Desmond Howard is horrible get this man off my tv," one fan said.
"It’s really hard to listen to Desmond Howard, I still don’t get how ESPN employs him," a second fan commented.
"Having been an avid 'anti ESPN' person, especially when it comes to Game Day, I think the tide has turned this year," a third fan said. "If they'd get rid of Desmond Howard, they have the better show easily. And game broadcasts? ESPN by a mile. Even with Fowler and Herbie. 10x better."
"How many times is Desmond Howard going to mention he lives in Miami? So far 3, that I’ve caught," another fan wrote.
Desmond's future at ESPN.
Despite all the criticism surrounding Howard, he's locked in at ESPN for the foreseeable future. He agreed to a multi-year extension back in August.
"Desmond has played a pivotal role in ESPN and College GameDay’s success for two decades, so we’re thrilled that the Heisman Trophy winner and one of college football’s all-time greats will continue to offer his analysis and perspective – and, of course, occasional friendly jabs – across our coverage," ESPN's Burke Magnus said.
Howard, the 1991 Heisman Trophy winner, has been with ESPN since 2005. It's highly unlikely he moves on from "College GameDay" anytime soon.
