DeWitt leads Greater Lansing's all-state football selections in Division 3-4

A perfect season that concluded with the second state title in program history has resulted in the DeWitt football team having a big presence in the Michigan Sportswriters Division 3-4 all-state team.

The Division 3 state champion Panthers had four players selected first team all-state by a panel of writers from across the state.

Central Michigan signee and senior quarterback Traverse Moore, offensive lineman Drew Rumsey and Michigan Tech commit and defensive back Jadon Bender headlined the DeWitt players honored and were selected first team all-state. DeWitt also had defensive lineman Everett Cooper selected second team all-state.

Moore had 235 carries for 2,482 yards and 33 touchdowns and threw for 934 yards and 13 touchdowns for DeWitt. Rumsey was the top offensive lineman for the Panthers, who set a state record with 5,637 rushing yards this fall. Bender was the lone two-way starter for DeWitt and had 26 tackles and eight interceptions and also had 371 receiving yards and six TDs. Cooper had 54 tackles and a team-best seven sacks for the Panthers.

Williamston, Portland and Owosso each had multiple players honored, while Haslett and Mason also had all-state selections.

Williamston, which won CAAC Red and Division 4 district titles, had a pair of first team all-state selections in linebacker Miles Keener and defensive back Tommy Pratt. Keener had 101 tackles, three sacks, seven tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Pratt had 56 tackles, two tackles for loss, and five interceptions with three returned for scores. He also had 459 receiving yards and six TDs.

CAAC White and Division 4 district champion Portland had running back Kayden Dickerson selected first team all-state and linebacker Brad Meyers earn second team recognition. Dickerson had 113 carries for 1,470 yards and 20 touchdowns, while Meyers had 74 tackles, six tackles for loss, six pass break-ups and a fumble recovery.

Eastern Michigan signee Carter Miculka led the selections for Owosso and was named first team all-state. Owosso also had Liam Patrick earn second team honors as an athlete. Miculka didn't allow a sack and was the leader of an offensive line that helped the Trojans break 41 offensive school records during his four-year varsity career. Patrick threw for 1,616 yards and 20 touchdowns, ran for 786 yards and 11 touchdowns and added 77 tackles on defense.

Kansas signee and Haslett senior running back Kory Amachree and Mason senior linebacker Joey Schild were second team all-state selections. Amachree had 205 carries for 1,196 yards and 16 touchdowns and had 147 receiving yards and two TDs. Schild had 104 tackles, two pass break-ups, two sacks, five tackles for loss and fumble recovery.

DIVISION 5-6

Ovid-Elsie's Braxton O'Bryant was the lone area player named all-state by the Michigan Sportswriters in Division 5-6 and earned second team honors. The senior left tackle was a third-year starter and helped lead the the way in the trenches as the Marauders ran for 2,295 yards and threw for 989 yards.
