The Oklahoma Sooners are in their second bye week of the season during Week 11 of the 2025 college football season. The Sooners are sitting at 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in SEC play with three games remaining.

Even before the Sooners begin their final stretch of the season, they’ve improved on their win total from a year ago when they went 6-7. They’ve also improved on both sides of the ball. Oklahoma’s offense, which was the No. 97 scoring offense in the nation in 2024, is currently No. 65 in the nation at just over 28 points per game. It’s not great, but they’ve been good enough to win games because of the growth of the defense.

Last year, the defense allowed 21.5 points per game. In 2025, they’ve improved that by a touchdown, allowing just 14.1 points per game, which is No. 7 in the nation.

The growth of the defense, combined with the improvement from the offense, has the Oklahoma Sooners in position to make the College Football Playoff, but the job’s not finished. They have a tough trio of games to close the season, with the Alabama Crimson Tide kicking it off out of the bye week.

Playoff Hopes

According to ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Oklahoma Sooners have just a 0.2% chance to win the SEC but have a 33.3% chance to make the College Football Playoff.

Here’s what the Sooners’ remaining schedule looks like.

  • Nov. 15 at Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1, 5-0 SEC)
  • Nov. 22 vs. Missouri Tigers (6-2, 2-2 SEC)
  • Nov. 29. vs. LSU Tigers. (5-3, 2-3 SEC)

The mission for the Sooners is simple. Win out and they’ll be in the CFP. Lose to Alabama, but beat Missouri and LSU, and Oklahoma will be on the playoff bubble.

Key Injuries to Watch

The Oklahoma Sooners were without starting linebacker Kobie McKinzie against the Tennessee Volunteers after he suffered an injury the week before vs. Ole Miss. There’s optimism that he’ll be available when Oklahoma comes out of the bye week.

Also of note is the injury to star defensive end R Mason Thomas. Thomas limped his way to the end zone after recovering a fumble and running 71 yards for a touchdown. He missed the rest of the Tennessee game and will likely be questionable at best for Oklahoma’s game against Alabama.

Keontez Lewis, Derek Simmons, Gentry Williams, and Kendel Dolby are important names to watch on next week’s availability report as well.

Aaron’s Games of the Week

Each week, Aaron Gelvin, a contributor here at Sooners Wire, identifies the five most important games to watch. In Week 11, there are a number of key games with College Football Playoff implications. Here are his top five games.

  1. BYU at Texas Tech at 11 a.m. CT
  2. Texas A&M at Missouri at 2:30 p.m. CT
  3. Oregon at Iowa at 2:30 p.m. CT
  4. LSU at Alabama at 6:30 p.m. CT
  5. Wake Forest at Virginia at 6:00 p.m. CT

Recruiting Win

Oklahoma added a big-time playmaker on Friday in 2027 three-star running back Jaxsen Stokes out of California. Stokes is a home-run hitter. He’s got breakaway speed, great lateral quickness, and the contact balance you’re looking for in a running back. He doesn’t just win outside the tackles, but shows the patience and vision to create big plays running inside.

Stokes will have the opportunity to earn some playing time early in his career because he’s a big-play waiting to happen.

The Sooners now have six players committed in their top-ranked 2027 recruiting class and have a ton of momentum on the recruiting trail this fall.
