N.C. State football delivered the second-biggest upset of the weekend in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Entering as a near six-point underdog, the Wolfpack walked out with a commanding 12-point win over No. 7 Georgia Tech at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on Saturday, Nov. 1 to hand the Yellow Jackets their first loss of the season.

N.C. State fans didn't take long to celebrate the Wolfpack's first ranked win in nearly four years, as they stormed the field seconds after the clock hit triple zero — a celebration that will hit the university's athletic department with a $50,000 fine as a first-time violator of the ACC's event security policy.

The Wolfpack offense had a breakout game against the Yellow Jackets' defense, as quarterback CJ Bailey threw for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns, while N.C. State had four different players — Jayden Scott, Bailey, Will Wilson and Cody Hardy — finish with a rushing touchdown.

Here's how much N.C. State owes — and to whom — under the ACC's updated policy:

Does N.C. State owe Georgia Tech any incentives after field storming?

No. Though the Wolfpack will have to pay a fine as a first-time offender of the ACC's updated event security policy, their payment will not go to the Yellow Jackets.

Instead, N.C. State's fine will be made towards the ACC's scholarship fund.

How much was N.C. State fined for field storming vs Georgia Tech?

Under the ACC's updated event security policy, N.C. State would owe $50,000 to the conference as a first-time offender.

ACC field storming policy

The ACC made a change to the conference's event security policy for storming for both football and basketball games back in July of this year. While the conference still allows field (or court) stormings to happen, the change to the policy is that fans must wait to enter the field or court until after the visiting teams and officials have safely exited the field of play.

Financial penalties range from $50,000 for the first offense, $100,000 for the second and $200,000 for the third. Fines will reset every two years, while the money will go toward the ACC's scholarship fund.

The policy states:

"The elevated expectations for event security plans in men’s and women’s basketball and football will require that only student-athletes, coaches, officials, and authorized personnel are allowed in the competition area before, during, and at the conclusion of any competition. Further, visiting team personnel and officials must have the opportunity to safely exit the competition area before spectators may access the competition area following a contest. These plans must be reviewed by an independent third party by the start of the 2026-27 academic year."
