Does UNC stand a chance against Notre Dame?

Yesterday afternoon, Notre Dame throttled Purdue 49-10 to win the Shillelagh Trophy for the 11th time in row. The Boilermakers’ defense allowed 444 total yards and six touchdowns, while the offense could only procure one touchdown. It was ugly, it was expected, and it is exactly why I think it would be in UNC’s best interest to not even show up Saturday.

For what it’s worth, Purdue has had a really bad time against any team that isn’t named Indiana State. They have allowed 30 points in their last three games, one of which was Wake Forest. Still, it seems like the Fighting Irish are just on that type of time this season, and they are making a massive push to make their way to the College Football Playoffs. Meanwhile, UNC lost yet another frustrating game to a bad Clemson team, and now any promise that was earned has seemed to vanish. Things somehow only get harder for the rest of the season, and Bill Belichick will have to find a way to please the people that fundraised his contract.

That said, he’ll have to pull some type of rabbit out of a hat if he wants to beat the Irish. Maybe they need a change in quarterback, but even then they may not have enough juice to get the job done. If they gave up 28 points to Clemson, what gives fans hope that they will somehow hold Notre Dame to any less than 35? It would be incredible if the Heels were to pull this one off, but all signs point to UNC leaving the field 2-2 before having to travel to Pittsburgh to face off against the Panthers.
