Michigan Wolverines head coach Dusty May has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the college basketball ranks in recent years. He was the head coach at Florida Atlantic for six seasons, leading the Owls to the 2023 Final Four. He was then hired by Michigan in 2024, where he saw success right away in winning the Big Ten tournament and reaching the Sweet 16.

The 2025-26 campaign has been even more impressive, as the Wolverines have won 36 games to date and have a chance to win the national championship with a victory on Monday night against the UConn Huskies.

With an extremely strong resume and relatively young for a college basketball head coach (49), May was seen as a prime target for the vacant North Carolina Tar Heels coaching job. But May isn't going anywhere — at least for any other college program.

ESPN's Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello reported that May spoke with Michigan officials in the wake of the Wolverines' Final Four victory over the Arizona Wildcats, informing them that he's not pursuing other college jobs.

May began his coaching career in 2005 as an assistant at Eastern Michigan, with stops at Murray State, UAB, Louisiana Tech and Florida before being hired in 2018 as the head coach at Florida Atlantic. May's time with the Owls didn't get off to a fast start, as he went just 47-41 in his first three seasons. But his final two campaigns were tremendous, with the team winning 35 games during the 2022-23 season and reaching the Final Four.

He recruited a number of talented players to FAU, a trend that has continued at Michigan.

Last offseason, he secured the top-ranked player in the transfer portal in UAB's Yaxel Lendeborg. The former Blazers standout was awarded as the Big Ten Player of the Year and has spearheaded a strong frontcourt.

Both the on-court coaching success and recruiting acumen that May brings doesn't appear to be leaving Michigan for another college program anytime soon.
