Eagles reportedly adding new defensive assistant coach originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

As the Eagles continue to finalize their 2026 coaching staff, the team is hiring Allen Smith as their assistant outside linebackers coach, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported on Monday.

Smith was the defensive line coach at Army during the 2025 season after a three-year stint (2022-24) at Georgia State as a defensive line coach.

Smith does have some NFL experience. He spent the 2021 season as an assistant defensive line coach with the Houston Texans under head coach David Culley and defensive coordinator Lovie Smith.

The Eagles have lost a couple of defensive coaches this offseason. Former defensive backs coach Christian Parker left this offseason to take the defensive coordinator job in Dallas. Former assistant linebackers coach Ronell Williams left to become the linebackers coach in Las Vegas. And former defensive assistant Tyler Yelk left to become safeties coach at Nebraska.

To replace Parker, the Eagles promoted former safeties coach Joe Kasper to the defensive backs coach/defensive passing game coordinator position. The Eagles have also reportedly hired Mike Pellegrino and Beyah Rasool as defensive assistants under Vic Fangio.

The good news this offseason is that Fangio, 67, decided to return for a third season as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator after flirting with retirement.

While the Eagles have seen some changes on the defensive side of the coaching staff, there are more changes on offense with new OC Sean Mannion. The Eagles have yet to announce their full coaching staff for the 2026 season.
