Early play time could dictate 2027 5-star LB's commitment decision

Ahead of what will be a massive recruiting opportunity for coach Mike Elko and his staff, Texas A&M will host 2027 five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, who, after receiving a prediction to land with the Aggies, is still being heavily pursued by the Miami Hurricanes, and after his official visit to Coral Gables last weekend, Elko will need to roll out the red carpet for the blue-chip defender.
In terms of “priority prospects,” Henderson is right up there with five-star cornerbacks John Meredith and Joshua Dobson, and is the No. 1 linebacker on the Aggies’ board, feeling that, similar to both cornerbacks, he has a chance to see the field in an extended role during his freshman season. Right now, Texas A&M and Miami are neck and neck, while the Aggies have a chance to secure his commitment after what should be a solid OV.
Speaking with On3 insider Chad Simmons, Henderson stated that, similar to the pitch to Meredith and Dobson, playing under a defensive-minded head coach, in Mike Elko, is highly enticing, while early playing time among a linebacker room that will look very different in 2027 is one of the primary reasons some believe the Aggies lead his recruitment.
“My relationship with the position coach and staff and also being able to play at a high level and being able to play early,” Henderson stated.
New linebackers coach Travis Williams landed his first LB commit on Monday after Aston Whiteside chose the Aggies over Kentucky and others, and after landing four linebacker commits in the 2026 signing class, securing Henderson’s commitment would not just fill out the depth, but also allow Elko to potentially avoid using transfer portal resources on multiple linebackers.
