Back in October of 2025, former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron threw his name into the ring as the hopeful next head coach of the Tigers, who had just parted ways with Brian Kelly. While Orgeron didn't get the top job, with that going to Lane Kiffin, he did get hired, eventually.

On Wednesday night, the LSU program announced that Orgeron was joining Kiffin's staff as a special assistant to Kiffin for recruiting and defense. Orgeron is expected to be a big piece on the recruiting trail for the Tigers going forward.

Orgeron was LSU's head coach from 2016-2021, and in his six seasons with the Tigers, Orgeron went 51-20 and led the Tigers to a 15-0 season and national championship in 2019 with Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, a team that many consider one of the best in college football's history.

Orgeron and Kiffin have worked together at multiple stops, including Tennessee and USC. When the Trojans fired Kiffin in 2013, it was Orgeron who stepped in as the Trojans' interim head coach.
