Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class has a chance to finish as the No. 1-ranked cycle if this momentum continues, as head coach Mike Elko and his staff landed their sixth commit in the cycle, securing a verbal from four-star blue-chip cornerback Raylaun Henry out of the prestigious St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
Currently sitting at No. 1 in the updated 247Sports class rankings, Raylaun Henry is considered one of the best coverage cornerbacks in the country, possessing the size and frame at 6’1″ to thrive on the outside as a boundary corner, and looks like a perfect fit in Mike Elko’s scheme. Receiving nearly 30 offers, Henry chose the Aggies over Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio State, Penn State, and Indiana.
Henry’s close relationship with Elko and defensive back coach Jordan Peterson, who has continued to look like one of the top recruiters in the country, already winning battles over Ohio State and Alabma on multiple occacions, and has made Texas A&M one of the top destinations for elite defensive back prospects to consider, and thrive in a system that will eventually lead to the NFL.
Here’s what 247Sports national analyst Hudson Standish had to say about Henry’s versatility on the field.
Long-limbed corner with an ideal blend of size and speed hovering around 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. Operates on an island against one of the toughest prep schedules in the country. Displays ideal fluidity working in his backpedal and stays calm in phase. Not one to panic when the football is in the air, and will find ways to put himself in position to make plays at the catch point. Can get across the field with his top gear and prevent touchdowns while in pursuit. Likely to find the most success in a scheme that wants to man-up aggressively on the outside. Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level and a possible all-conference selection if he can keep progressing. Possesses the physical traits and athletic upside to potentially develop into an early-round NFL Draft selection.
Joining four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson, four-star safety Kamarui Dorsey, DeMarrion Johnson, four-star DL Eljiah Patmon, and three-star athlete Hakim Frampton, Texas A&M’s 2027 cycle is just getting started.
According to 247Sports, Henry is currently positioned as the 18th-ranked prospect, the No. 3-ranked cornerback, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Maryland.
