After signing a tiny 2026 recruiting class, Nebraska has its foot on the gas with top 2027 prospects.
The Cornhuskers already have six commits in the new cycle, forming a class that ranks No. 6 very early on in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Head coach Matt Rhule and Co. are after more.
Blue-chippers are checking out Lincoln and a big target announced on Monday that he’ll be in town this weekend: Nashville Brentwood Academy four-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman.
It’s a notable development for Bowman and the Big Ten program. Bowman, a former Oregon commit, is already closing in on another decision date. He told Rivals’ Chad Simmons at the end of December that he’ll commit again on Feb. 10 — but that date has now been pushed a couple of days to Feb. 12.
He also named five finalists: Oregon, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Nebraska is looking to jam its foot in the door with that decision just over two weeks away.
“It’s a good time for me,” Bowman said of the commitment date. “I’m done with visits before I commit. I may take two or three official visits, just to make sure of things, but I am ready.”
The Huskers have landed a commitment at the receiver position thus far via Fort Worth, Texas native Tay Ellis. Both Ellis and four-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor have announced that they are transferring to Nebraska prep powerhouse Millard South for their senior seasons.
Taylor, the No. 54 overall prospect and No. 4 QB in the 2027 cycle, has been a very vocal recruiter. He’s helping Nebraska’s efforts with Bowman, to no surprise:
Bowman checks in as the No. 41 overall prospect and No. 6 WR in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 player in Tennessee.
“It’s really coming down to relationships,” Bowman said. “That means a lot to me. I want to go where I feel the best, where they can develop me, and where I can thrive in college and eventually thrive in the NFL.”
Nebraska’s 2026 class sits at just 10 signees and another commit in the high school ranks. Despite the light haul, there are a pair of receivers headed to Lincoln in Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern three-star Nalin Scott and Winter Garden (Fla.) Jones three-star Larry Miles.
