Notre Dame has picked up a big time 2028 commitment with elite defensive end Darieon Prescott pledging to the Fighting Irish. The Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School star committed to Notre Dame over Oregon, Texas A&M and Ohio State. It keeps the Irish dominating its recruiting efforts along the defensive line.
Landing Prescott is big for the Irish in the 2028 class. The 6-4, 255-pound edge is an elite prospect and he's been on the radar for Notre Dame going back to his freshman season. In fact, Prescott was offered by Notre Dame last June, which was prior to his sophomore season. Previous defensive line coach Al Washington was all over Prescott early on, and new position coach Charlie Partridge continued that as soon as he was hired. It was clear Prescott was a must-get target for the Irish coaching staff for some time, and adding him into the class this early is a massive win for Notre Dame.
Prescott is one of the best overall recruits in the 2028 class. He is ranked as the No. 7 overall player in the country according to 247Sports, he's the No. 24 overall player in the nation according to Rivals/On3 and he's ranked as the No. 36 overall player in the ESPN300 rankings. Even as a sophomore, Prescott grades out as a Top 50 national recruit on the Irish Breakdown board.
As a sophomore, Prescott racked up 65 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, five sacks, 26 quarterback pressures, eight pass break ups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and he also blocked two kicks. He's a powerful and athletic edge player that is just starting to scratch the surface of how good he could be. As his technical prowess improves, Prescott's ability to finish at the quarterback will take a big jump. He's a stout run defender and a disruptive pass rusher, but what really stands out when breaking down his film is that he combines a high level of football intelligence to go with his physical tools. That's why Prescott broke up eight passes and blocked two kicks as a sophomore. That combination of size, power, athleticism and football IQ is why he's a high level recruit with five-star upside.
Prescott is the third player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2028 class, joining Florida safety Andre Jones and Tennessee kicker Owen Davies.
The Bolingbrook star earned scholarship offers from the Irish, Buckeyes, Ducks and Aggies as well as from Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Miami (Fla.), LSU, Indiana, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Florida State, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Auburn, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Washington, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Purdue, Minnesota, Kansas State, Duke, Iowa State and Vanderbilt.
