The latest Intel on Ohio State football target CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. could have him fading away from the Buckeyes. A recent recruiting win for Ohio State is part of the reason.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have seen recruiting pick up a bit recently with a couple of commitments over the last two weeks. Specifically, cornerback recruiting has picked up for Ohio State, which now has a pair of them in the 2027 class.
Ohio State picked up a commitment from Massillon (OH) four-star CB Deontay Malone first, then earlier this week landed four-star St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) CB Jaden Carey.
Ohio State knows who they want as the third cornerback commit and it won’t be easy to make happen.
Latest on Ohio State’s chase of four-star CB Monsanna Torbert Jr.
Four-star Princeton (OH) CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. was in Columbus for an official visit last weekend, and he’ll see Michigan this weekend. The Buckeyes had hoped to land a commitment from Torbert before his trip to Ann Arbor, but it didn’t happen.
Louisville has entered what is a three-team race for Torbert, and they are a very real threat here. The Cardinals have been working hard on this one for a long time, and have made Torbert feel like a big priority. There’s been a comparison made to former Louisville cornerback Quincy Riley from their staff, who is tied with former TCU safety Bud Clark with the most interceptions (15) of any D1 defender this decade. Like Riley, Torbert has the ability to stay on the outside despite his lack of size, and they’ve stressed that.
Ohio State has been viewed as hard to beat for the former Indiana commit but after the Buckeyes took a commitment from Carey last week, things have shifted slightly. According to a source, that commitment may not have sat well with Torbert. Louisville is staying true to its pledge that he is its highest priority. That’s led to some momentum for Louisville.
The 5-foot-11 cornerback from the Cincinnati area is the No. 102-ranked player overall and No. 13 cornerback in the class of 2027, per 247 Sports Composite. Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton is leading the recruitment of Torbert for the Buckeyes.
It’ll be interesting and telling to be quite frank whether or not Torbert ends up taking an official visit to Louisville. If he does, the Buckeyes are in serious jeopardy of having to turn elsewhere at the cornerback position for 2027.
