The Florida State Seminoles need a safety commit in their 2027 class, and four-star prospect Ta’Shawn Poole is one of, if not their top target at the position. He’s set to take an official visit to Tallahassee this weekend, which could be his final trip before his decision.
Last weekend, Poole took an official visit to his other top contender, the Tennessee Volunteers. As the two battle it out for his commitment, Poole broke down how huge his visit to FSU is.
“This visit to Florida State is big for me, my family and friends because my auntie played basketball there,” Poole told Rivals. “This is a very big visit for a lot of reasons.
“The coaches at Florida State want me, so it will be good to spend more time with them, see what they are talking about and just get another feel around the campus. I know Florida State is another school I like a lot, so after visiting Tennessee, it will be great to get back to Tallahassee.”
The Seminoles offered Poole in August of 2025. They’ve had him on campus multiple times since then, which included a trip during their game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons last November.
Last month, Poole went in-depth about how he views Florida State, and head coach Mike Norvell’s future with the program was a big factor. He was satisfied with what he heard from the Seminoles’ head man, plus the possibility of playing early is appealing to him as well.
Of course, Tennessee has done an excellent job recruiting Poole themselves, which is why this is such a difficult choice for the Howard High School standout.
“So many things will go into my decision,” Poole said. “The opportunities, the coaches, relationships — it will be a lot. Both schools have done a great job, and I have a great time at both schools, so it will be a tough decision.”
This would be a major commitment for FSU to land, especially after losing four-star safety Mekhi Williams to the Wisconsin Badgers.
Poole is the nation’s No. 73 recruit and the No. 4 safety per Rivals’ industry rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 6 prospect in the state of Georgia.
