Ellington leads the way for Grapeland Sandies

The Grapeland Sandies picked up 17 nominations on the 11-2A, Division II All-District Football Team as selected by the district coaches.

The Sandies had one superlative honor in Lineman of the Year Jesse Ellington.

Grapeland finished the year with an 8-4 record and 5-1 in district play. Coach Jordan Wood’s team lost to Bremond 53-32 in the area round of the playoffs.

First team honors went to running back and linebacker Maleek Johnson, quarterback and defensive back Sean Walker, wide receiver and defensive back Keavy Bruins and running back and linebacker Diego Fajardo.

Offensive lineman and defensive lineman Lane Olson, offensive lineman Trace Brazzil, offensive lineman Brock Estes, utility player Gabriel DeLeon, defensive lineman Braelon McDaniel and defensive back Wells Heersink also received first team honors.

Four players were named to the second team in wide receiver and linebacker Aiden Owens, wide receiver and defensive back Jalen Woods, kicker Edy Lopez and linebacker Eli DeLeon.

Blake Davis and Ethan DeLeon were named honorable mention offensive linemen.

The Sandies had 28 players named to the Academic All-District team in Owens, Andres Salaices, Asa Malone, Davis, Brock DeLeon, Estes, Cameron Culpepper, Cameron Smith, Cash Huff, Collin Lovett, Fajardo, Lopez, Eli DeLeon, Ethan DeLeon, Gabriel DeLeon, Gavin Ramirez, Bruins, Woods, Ellington, Landon Luce, Olsen, Lyric Booker, Johnson, Nate Rodriguez, Sage Caskey, Walker, Brazzil, Traylon Gaines and Heersink.
