The LSU Tigers are going to be in the spotlight all season long thanks to the dramatic hiring of Lane Kiffin this offseason, and will be on the national stage from the first moment of the season.

ESPN's iconic "College GameDay" will make Baton Rouge its stop for Week 1 of the 2026 season, for the Tigers' home matchup against Clemson, per Pete Nakos of On3. It's far from the most intriguing home game on LSU's schedule, but they are wasting no time seeing what Kiffin has cooking.

While the coaching staff has repeatedly used vocabulary that would suggest the school is in a bit of a rebuilding year, they are pretty much the only ones not talking up this roster that they spent millions and millions of dollars building. They have the talent to have a good season, it'll be up to the coaches to get them ready.

It's also not even just the product on the field that ESPN is hoping to see. This announcement came right after a Vanity Fair profile on Kiffin was released and he had some inflammatory comments about recruiting while with the Ole Miss Rebels. He was the talk of the entire college football world.

This has been a media circus since the moment the rumors started. There is a lot of pressure on the school and Kiffin to perform right away, given how good the Rebels were last season and the shocking decision to leave. If they lose in Week 1, it'll be chaos.

That's also due to the fact that this is not nearly as scary of a Clemson Tigers roster that the college football world is used to seeing. It should be a platform for Kiffin to be a little cocky and see LSU come out swinging. That would certainly build into the villain narrative growing around the school. It's no surprise that ESPN is coming to Baton Rouge early.
