A long list of names came to mind when it was announced that ESPN’s “College GameDay” would be making a return trip to Eugene to feature the No. 7 Oregon Ducks ahead of their matchup against the No. 15 USC Trojans. In one of the time-honored traditions of the flagship show, ESPN would be inviting a guest picker to join the show for the final segment, often someone tied to the University in some way.

So who would it be, a former athlete like Kenjon Barner, or an Oregon celebrity, like Ty Burrell?

The decision has finally been made. ESPN announced on Thursday that Washington Commanders star and Oregon legend Marcus Mariota would be coming on the show as the guest picker on Saturday morning in Eugene.

Had Oregon fans been given the choice, it’s not unreasonable to think they would have chosen Mariota, the king of Eugene. It also doesn’t come as a major surprise that this is the pick, considering that Mariota was already scheduled to be in Eugene for this game, as he is getting inducted into the Oregon Ducks Athletics Hall of Fame.

This is the second time that “GameDay” is coming to Eugene this year. They came earlier in the year when the No. 7 Indiana Hoosiers came to town, and Sabrina Ionescu was the guest picker.

This is the 14th time that “College GameDay” will be returning to Eugene, and the 35th time that Oregon has ever been featured on the show. The appearance of Ionescu and Mariota as a guest picker builds on the shoulders of Oregon alum and television star Kaitlin Olson from last year against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
