Phew.
The Michigan Wolverines (8-2, 6-1 Big Ten) survived their trip to Wrigley Field against Northwestern (5-5, 3-4) and can turn their attention to a road date with Maryland (4-6, 1-6). This was a classic Northwestern, muck-it-up performance, and while Michigan was far from its sharpest, a win is a win.
Following another weekend of college football, ESPN’s FPI rankings kept the Wolverines at No. 18. Their win-loss prediction bumped up to 9.0-3.0, which essentially means they will beat Maryland this weekend and then lose in The Game against Ohio State after that. Michigan’s College Football Playoff odds are at eight percent, and the changes of winning out are at 12.8 percent.
As was the case last week, the Wolverines’ path to the CFP is pretty clear — handle the Terrapins and pull off a fifth straight victory against Ohio State.
Neither will be an easy task, and the two interceptions were concerning, but Bryce Underwood was having arguably his most impressive passing performance of the season against Northwestern. Additionally, wide receiver Andrew Marsh is turning into a star and a reliable go-to target for Underwood in the pass game.
