ESPN's Max Olson has recently named the best transfer portal addition for every team in their way-to-early Top 25 rankings.

The Tide are projected as the No. 21 team in the country prior to the 2026 campaign, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. Olson lists former USC defensive tackle Devan Tompkins as Alabama’s top transfer portal addition, as Thompkins is expected to play a crucial role on the Tide’s defensive line next season.

At 6’5”, 290 pounds, Thompkins was credited with 31 total tackles, 6.5 TFL, three sacks and one forced fumble in 2025 as the playmaker was a vital component to the Trojans’ defense last season.

Thompkins was ranked as the No. 5 defensive lineman and the No. 30 overall player from the transfer portal, per the 247Sports Transfer Rankings. Thompkins was targeted by a multitude of programs around the SEC, as the big man could quickly begin to make a major impact throughout his first year in Tuscaloosa next season.

Alabama has added numerous playmakers on both sides of the football from the transfer portal, as Thompkins officially finds himself as the newest member of the Crimson Tide’s defensive line.
