When the Auburn Tigers host the Florida Gators on Saturday night, both teams will be looking for a huge victory to start 1-0 in SEC play.
The winner will be in a position to have a great year, and the loser could be looking at a 6-6 season. An added element of the matchup is the two head coaches, Alex Golesh and Jon Sumrall, both of whom are in their first seasons at their respective schools. The two met once in the American Conference when Sumrall's Tulane team beat South Florida 45-10 in 2024.
The clash between the Tigers and Gators could go either way. According to the ESPN Matchup Predictor, Auburn is a slight favorite with a 50.2% chance of victory. However, BetMGM lists the Florida Gators as the 3-point favorite.
This is the first time the two schools have met on the football field since the 2019 matchup. The Tigers lost on that day, 24-13, as freshman quarterback Bo Nix threw three interceptions in Gainesville. The Gators have not played a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium since 2011, when the Tigers won 17-6 in a defensive struggle.
The two programs were annual opponents at one time, but conference expansion has made it rare for the two schools to play on the gridiron. Auburn leads the series all-time 43-39-2.
The Tigers and Gators will square off on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
