The Georgia Bulldogs play the Texas Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. The Georgia-Texas game will be televised on ESPN.
No. 5 Georgia (8-1, 6-1 SEC) plays No. 10 Texas (7-2, 4-1 SEC) in a rematch of the 2024 SEC championship game. Georgia went 2-0 against Texas last season, but that does not mean that anything for the 2025 contest. Texas is desperate to win in order to preserve realistic College Football Playoff hopes.
Georgia and coach Kirby Smart have a major challenge against Texas, who has the SEC’s best run defense and leads the country in sacks. “They’re built on the line of scrimmage,” Smart said about the Texas defensive front. “They’re built to be physical.”
Georgia is going to have to be stubborn and run the football against Texas even if the gains are for limited yardage. Georgia doesn’t want to put quarterback Gunner Stockton in obvious passing situations very often against Texas’ talented defensive front.
The Georgia game will be a major test for Texas quarterback Arch Manning. The Longhorns are just 2-2 on the road this season and have not won a road game in regulation yet. Manning needs to play well and take care of the football in order for Texas to upset Georgia.
Will Georgia beat Texas? ESPN’s prediction
Georgia is 6 1/2-point home favorites against Texas. ESPN’s matchup predictor, which factors in how teams have performed, football power index (FPI) and other important variables, gives Georgia a 59.9% chance to defeat Texas. The Longhorns have a 40.1% chance of beating Georgia. ESPN considers Texas to be Georgia’s most likely loss for the rest of the regular season.
Georgia’s CFP chances
ESPN gives Georgia a 92.3% chance of making the playoff. Georgia’s path to the playoff is simple. As long as the Bulldogs beat Texas and don’t slip up against Charlotte, then Georgia would make the 12-team playoff.
UGA has a 17.1% chance of winning the SEC (third in the conference behind Alabama and Texas A&M) and a 8.6% chance of winning the national championship (fourth in the country), according to FPI. Texas has a 50.2% chance of making the playoff and has two tough remaining games against Georgia and Texas A&M.
