College football is in full offseason mode, but there’s still plenty of news out there, especially for a program like Ohio State, where uniform combinations have been unveiled, and we continue to follow recruiting efforts and the installation of new turf.

ESPN also knows that college football isn’t like it used to and is still cooking up plenty of stories for you to follow in order to get your fix, and the latest is a ranking of the best offseasons of teams in the Big Ten. Nowadays, with Name, Image and Likeness, and the transfer portal, there’s plenty to follow, and how a team does during the offseason with roster moves and coaching changes can have a big impact on how the next season goes.

The Buckeyes lost quite a bit of talent to the NFL (to say the least), had some significant coaching changes, and brought in 51 new faces to try to assimilate into the roster. So, how does ESPN grade Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and the offseason moves? The worldwide leader doesn’t see OSU as having the best offseason. Instead, that honor goes to defending College Football Playoff national champions Indiana (it still doesn’t seem right putting that down in print), followed by Oregon, then USC, and then OSU at No. 4 in the Big Ten.

ESPN praises the addition of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and the key additions to the roster via the transfer portal, highlights holding onto Chris Henry Jr. as a part of the No. 9 (via ESPN) recruiting class, and what’s coming back, but notes the huge losses on defense to the NFL, the departure of Brian Hartline, and notable portal defections.

If you’d like to get a look at what ESPN thinks about not only the rest of the Big Ten programs and how they graded out with their offseason moves, but all the rest of the Power 4 teams, head on over to the piece Eli Lederman, Max Olson, and Adam Rittenberg put together and absorb it all.
