There are already a handful of head coaching jobs available in college football this season, but there's on in particular that stands out to ESPN analyst Booger McFarland.
By September 23, UCLA moved on from DeShaun Foster, Virginia Tech fired Brent Pry, and Oklahoma State parted ways with longtime coach Mike Gundy. That was just a sign of things to come in October.
On Oct. 12, Penn State made the tough decision to fire James Franklin. Exactly one week later, Florida got rid of Billy Napier. In case those two firings weren't big enough, LSU relieved Brian Kelly of his duties.
"We had high hopes that he would lead us to multiple SEC and national championships during his time in Baton Rouge," LSU athletic director Scott Woodward said after the football team lost 49-25 to Texas A&M. "Ultimately, the success at the level that LSU demands simply did not materialize, and I made the decision to make a change after last night's game."
Does LSU have the most appealing job?
While on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," Booger McFarland said LSU has the best job opening. He pointed out the school's financial situation and ability to land top recruits.
"We’re a long way from this coaching search being over. But there’s no doubt in my mind LSU is the best job out there. I think when it comes to finances, when it comes to facilities, when it comes to recruiting, [LSU] is in the best position," McFarland said, via On3. "Somebody just tell the governor [Jeff Landry], ‘Hey, pipe down a little bit. Worry about politics. Let the football people worry about football.’ But I truly believe LSU will be able to get a better coach for the reasons I laid out."
McFarland played at LSU before becoming a two-time Super Bowl champion, so it's possible he's trying to prop up his alma mater. That being said, we can't deny the school's history of winning.
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and Tulane's Jon Sumrall appear to be the top candidates for LSU at the moment. We'll see if either one ends up landing the job.
