The Georgia Bulldogs were ranked as the No. 4 team in the updated College Football Playoff rankings. Georgia rose one spot after the previous No. 4, the Alabama Crimson Tide, lost to the Oklahoma Sooners.
As a result of the new rankings, Georgia would have a bye in the playoff as one of top four seeds. Georgia’s bye would allow the Bulldogs to rest and practice in preparation for the quarterfinals of the playoff.
As the No. 4 seed, Georgia would play the winner of the No. 5 Texas Tech Red Raiders versus No. 12 Tulane Green Wave game. Georgia would most likely end up playing Texas Tech, who looks like the best team in the Big 12, at a neutral site. If Georgia beat Texas Tech in the quarterfinals, then the Bulldogs would be likely to play No. 1 seed Ohio State.
Georgia has three ranked wins this season. The Bulldogs beat No. 20 Tennessee, No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 17 Texas. Georgia will have another chance to beat a ranked opponent next week when the Bulldogs play No. 16 Georgia Tech.
