The 2026 United Football League (UFL) kicked off its third season since the merger between the United States Football League and the XFL on Friday night in Louisville, Kentucky.
The UFL schedule opened with the Birmingham Stallions defeating the Louisville Kings, 15-13. Birmingham-Louisville was the first of four league games this weekend.
The St. Louis Battlehawks defeated the DC Defenders, 16-10, on Saturday, and the Dallas Renegades hosted the Houston Gamblers later that day. The Columbus Aviators will face the Orlando Storm Sunday in primetime (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
As for which former Clemson football players from Dabo Swinney's program you can expect to see on UFL rosters this season? That total features six players, including a few former national champions with the Tigers.
Former Clemson football national champion lifts UFL team to win in debut
One Clemson player of note to make a UFL roster is former Tiger and national champion wide receiver Justyn Ross. Ross, who exploded in Clemson's 44-16 rout of Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship in January 19, made his season debut with the Stallions on Friday.
Not only that, Ross caught the game-winning touchdown pass on a 14-yard reception from former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Matt Corral with 1:55 to play in Birmingham's 15-13 win over Louisville. Ross finished the night with two catches for 30 yards

As a true freshman from Phenix City, Alabama, Ross made six catches for 154 yards and a touchdown at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, in January 2019. The Tigers throttled the Crimson Tide for their second national championship in three seasons, both against Nick Saban teams.
The highlight that night in Santa Clara was a juggling, one-handed grab by Ross midway through the third quarter for a 74-yard touchdown that put Clemson ahead, 37-16. The Tigers became the first college football team in the modern era to finish 15-0.
In Clemson's College Football Playoff semifinal win over Notre Dame at the Cotton Bowl nine days earlier, Ross had six catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers' 30-3 rout of the Fighting Irish.
Ross finished his Clemson career with 158 catches for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns across three full seasons. He missed the 2020 season following surgery that spring.
