Lane Kiffin seems to be off-the-grid lately. Since his feature piece in Vanity Fair, the LSU Tigers coach has taken a timeout from social media, and it's definitely evident.

Kiffin hasn't posted anything to his account for the past eight days.

One of the hottest names in college football this offseason, because of the move from Ole Miss to the bayou of LSU, hasn't gone more than a week without telling the world his thoughts. Now he's MIA. Everyone is speculating if this is a record for Kiffin, who typically stumps on social media or uses it as a recruiting tool.

Why would Kiffin go radio silent? The Tigers new coach faced backlash for his comment about Ole Miss, saying the school needed to evolve after a history of segregation. While most would agree with Kiffin, there was a portion of the SEC fan base who didn't think the timing was right.

"Kiffin also seems willing to indirectly invoke Ole Miss's struggle to distance itself from symbols like the Confederate flag, Colonel Rebel, and the nickname "Ole Miss" itself," Vanity Fair's Chris Smith wrote.

"When he was coaching there, Kiffin says, top recruits would tell him, “‘Hey, coach, we really like you. But my grandparents aren’t letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi.’ That doesn’t come up when you say Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"Parents were sitting here this weekend saying the campus’s diversity feels so great: ‘It feels like there’s no segregation. And we want that for our kid because that’s the real world.’” (The next day Kiffin added, “I just hope [my comment] comes across respectful to Ole Miss…. There are some things that I’m saying that are factual. They’re not shots.”

We'll see how long Kiffin's social media strike lasts. This might be out of character for him, but might be what the doctor ordered to regain focus before the season in Baton Rouge.
