Where do things stand with the 2027 Notre Dame recruiting class? Only a couple of priority targets and key questions remain.

Notre Dame football recruiting for the 2027 class is approaching completion after the commitment of elite Lake Charles (La.) Sam Houston offensive lineman Albert Simien. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish staff have built a class with very little mystery remaining, and the few targets left on the board could push this group from elite to historic. The remaining recruits include a versatile Chicago linebacker, a massive defensive tackle, and potentially a second tight end.

Here is where things stand with each remaining target and what to watch for heading into the summer commitment window.

LB Roman Igwebuike – Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel

The Mount Carmel (Chicago) standout sits at the top of Notre Dame’s remaining wish list. At 6-3 and 220 pounds, Igwebuike brings unreal upside and versatility to the linebacker position. He is set to make his commitment on July 11.

Following a tremendous official visit to South Bend a couple of weekends ago, Notre Dame leads this recruitment. The Irish will need to continue pushing to close against Clemson and Indiana, but folks around South Bend are very optimistic about where they stand. There is a possibility that Igwebuike ends up being the only linebacker commitment in the class, though that could change down the road. Linebacker is the lone remaining position group without a commitment for the Fighting Irish, making this recruitment all the more significant.

If Notre Dame lands Igwebuike on July 11, it would be a huge addition and fill the final major gap in the class.

DT Brayden Parks – Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice

The other premier target still on the board is Chicago (Ill.) Brother Rice defensive tackle Brayden Parks. Notre Dame already holds an elite defensive line haul for 2027, even without Parks. The group includes five-star Abraham Sesay, top-100 defensive end Aidan O’Neil, talented pass rusher Jackson Vaughn, elite defensive tackle David Folorunsho, and Georgia interior defender Segun Alexander.

That collection already stands as arguably the best Notre Dame defensive line class in nearly 30 years.

Landing Parks would push it to the very top. At 6-2 and 315 pounds, Parks fills a specific need as a true nose tackle type, something the current group lacks despite its depth. The Fighting Irish continue to battle Oregon for his commitment, and folks in South Bend are optimistic about their standing. While there is no firm commitment date on the timeline, many believe a decision could come sometime in the near future.

What else to watch

Beyond Igwebuike and Parks, the remaining spots come down to evaluation and potential risers during the early portion of the 2026 high school season.

Notre Dame would still like to bring in a second linebacker for the 2027 class, but nobody has great intel on who that player could be. There is a chance the Irish head into the fall, evaluate potential risers across the landscape, and identify a target as the season plays out. If they can close on another talented linebacker, this defensive class would be as complete as any we have ever seen from the program.

Tight end is another position to monitor. With Titus Hawk committed, there is a potential need to bring in a second tight end. Notre Dame had the desire to do that earlier in the cycle, but when Malik Howard and Jaxon Dollar both committed to Tennessee and Georgia, respectively, the board became very small. Keep an eye on whether the Irish identify any risers at the tight end position heading into the fall.

Wide receiver is less likely to see another addition, although I would keep my eyes open. I do believe Notre Dame would stick with two wide receiver commitments and be comfortable with where the class stands.

The big picture

This 2027 Notre Dame recruiting class is already outstanding, and the remaining targets only add to its ceiling. Freeman and his staff have done a remarkable job assembling talent on the defensive side of the ball, and a strong close with Igwebuike and Parks would cap an extraordinary haul. The next few weeks should tell us a lot about just how high this class can climb.
