According to a report from college football insider Pete Nakos at On3 on Tuesday, Missouri football officially has released Auburn transfer wide receiver Horatio Fields from his signing.
The move has been expected for the past few days.
A report from PowerMizzou and 247Sports on Saturday, Jan. 24, indicated that Fields had not arrived on campus. Fields, unlike a majority of Mizzou’s other portal signings from this window, was not listed in the university’s student database, indicating he had not enrolled. All recent signs pointed toward Fields not playing for Missouri in 2026.
On Jan. 8, Missouri officially announced on social media that Fields had signed with the Tigers. He needed to be released from that signed agreement, which could be financial aid agreement or an NIL contract or a combination of all of the above, to transfer to another school.
That appears to now have happened, and Fields is available to look for another school.
The news that Fields had not enrolled surfaced shortly after Missouri announced it had signed Ole Miss wide receiver Cayden Lee, who is one of four wideouts MU has now signed in this window. The Tigers also have added Caleb Goodie (Cincinnati), Kenric Lanier II (Minnesota) and Naeshaun Montgomery (Florida).
Multiple reports have since surfaced that Ole Miss actually is the school to watch for Fields, who is a 6-foot-2, 201-pound senior out of Douglasville, Georgia.
Fields missed most of the 2025 season at Auburn due to injury. The wide receiver previously played for Wake Forest, where he caught 39 passes for 467 yards and four touchdowns in 2024.
He has one year of eligibility remaining, as he originally signed in the Class of 2021. Fields was one of the first batch of players to commit to Missouri in this transfer portal cycle.
Missouri has signed 28 players out of the transfer portal so far this offseason. Mizzou has mostly managed to replenish a large amount of turnover in the wide receiver room, even without Fields arriving on campus.
If Fields does end up transferring to Ole Miss, Missouri will face its one-time signing on Oct. 17, when the Tigers travel to Oxford, Mississippi, for a game against the Rebels in the 2026 season.
