When Charles Scott Jr. made his commitment to the University of Alabama on May 1, 2026, it came across as a surprise to some.
Not because he picked Alabama, but because he did it so soon.
Scott plans to enter college for the 2028 season, and is currently a rising junior for Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia.
But you wouldn’t know that by looking at him.
Not only does Scott look the part at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, with an arm that can spin the ball with both distance and precision, but he exudes a quiet confidence.

So why not wait until after his junior season to take official visits and be pampered by other schools? It was actually quite simple for Scott.
“I’ve been around recruiting and football my entire life,” Scott told BamaRoundtable. “My dad is my head coach and he always says ‘love who loves you’ in the game of college football. Bama made me feel genuine love and it’s not just what I can do for the program they made me feel like they can help me grow in all aspects from football to life.”
Next season though, it’s all about growth. He helped lead Huguenot to the school’s first regional championship in over 20 years and is already working on leading it to glory.
“I’ve been working on my footwork and making quicker post snap reads,” he said. “We accomplished great things as a team last season going 11-2. My dad says winning is learned behavior and as a team we are still learning to close the deal as a team. I’ll definitely be doing my part to lead us to the promised land.”
Last week, Scott visited campus, spending time with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and tight ends coach Bryan Ellis while also getting a firsthand look at how Alabama practices.
When you look at Alabama’s quarterback room, there’s a whole lot of bodies, but the starting job is only built for one.
Both Austin Mack and Keelon Russell are competing for the starting job this season, but after them, it’s wide open.
Alabama has already stockpiled talent at quarterback with Jett Thomalla, Tayden-Evan Kaawa, Trent Seaborn and Elijah Haven all committed or signed in recent classes.
While 2028 is two years away, we asked Scott how he felt about competing in a crowded room.
“I feel great, My goal is to come in ready to compete Day 1 physically and mentally while understanding everything is also a process.”
A process it is indeed.
For now, Scott's focus remains on Huguenot and bringing home a championship.
Alabama can wait.
The work can't.
