Donald Trump shared a fake Denzel Washington quote on Truth Social. The actor’s representative confirmed the praise attributed to him was not real.

President Donald Trump shared a fabricated statement attributed to actor Denzel Washington on Truth Social on Monday, October 12, presenting the Hollywood star as a vocal supporter despite confirmation from Washington’s representative that the quote was false.

The post featured a message praising Trump’s character and presidency, including claims that he was unusually brave and intelligent, a great friend and an exceptional president. It also portrayed Washington as a committed supporter of the president. However, no evidence presented in the report established that the actor had made those remarks.

The Washington Post, in a report by Emily Kennard published Monday, confirmed the quote’s inauthenticity through Alan Nierob, president of PMK Entertainment, the firm representing Washington.

“Not real,” Nierob told the newspaper in an email. “No idea where it came from.”

The clarification directly contradicted the impression created by Trump’s post, which shared an image of a message originally published by the X account Red Eagle Updates. The account had circulated the purported endorsement before Trump amplified it to his own Truth Social audience.

The episode highlights how a claim can gain wider exposure when a prominent political figure shares it, even when the statement has not been authenticated. In this case, the alleged endorsement was presented as a direct expression of Washington’s political support, but his representative explicitly rejected its authenticity.

Further reporting by CNN’s Daniel Dale, published through affiliate news outlets, found that the same fabricated quote had previously been attributed to other celebrities, including musician Mick Jagger and actor Matthew McConaughey, according to the fact-checking website Snopes. That history suggests the wording was not created specifically around Washington, but had circulated online under different famous names.

Nierob’s response did not establish who originally created the statement or why it was attributed to Washington. The representative also said he had no information about where it originated.

The false attribution matters because celebrity endorsements can shape public perceptions of a political figure’s support, particularly when a familiar name is attached to an emphatic statement. Sharing a quote, however, does not establish that the named person said it.

As of the reports published Monday, Washington’s representative had clearly denied the statement’s authenticity, while the origin of the fabricated quote remained unknown.
