Falcons request to interview former Georgia interim coach

The Atlanta Falcons are searching for an offensive coordinator and have requested to interview former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver coach Bryan McClendon. The Falcons have already found their new head coach of the future in former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski.

McClendon played college football at Georgia from 2002-2005. He served as Georgia's wide receivers coach from 2022-2024 during his most recent stint at UGA. He previously coached receivers at Oregon (2020-2021) and South Carolina (2016-2019).

McClendon began his coaching career at Georgia in 2007. He coached running backs for Georgia under Mark Richt from 2009-2015. He was Georgia's interim head coach in the TaxSlayer Bowl at the end of the 2015 season.

McClendon helped Tampa Bay have one of the best wide receiver rooms in the NFL in recent seasons. The emergence of rookie Emeka Egbuka gives the Bucs a plan at receiver with Mike Evans getting older.

If the former Georgia receiver ends up landing the Falcons' offensive coordinator job, then that would add another fun twist to the Falcons-Bucs rivalry. Notably, Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has already called out current Browns via social media.

"Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage," Mayfield said of Stefanski. "Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach."
