Fans Demanding Apology For 'Disgusting' Lou Holtz Death Joke

College football fans are demanding an apology for a "disgusting" joke about Lou Holtz's death on Wednesday.

Holtz, 89, passed away following a battle with illness. He died surrounded by family in Orlando, Florida.

"Born January 6, 1937, in Follansbee, West Virginia, Holtz rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected figures in college athletics. Over a remarkable five‑decade career, he led college programs at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina.  He transformed every team he inherited and captured the 1988 National Championship with the Fighting Irish. Holtz was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Beth, with whom he shared a life grounded in faith, devotion, and service," his family announced.

"Holtz is remembered for his enduring values of faith, family, service, and an unwavering belief in the potential of others. His influence extended far beyond the football field through the Holtz Charitable Foundation and the many players, colleagues, and communities shaped by his leadership. He is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and two great‑grandchildren. Funeral arrangements, including a Mass of Christian Burial at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame, will be announced as details are finalized."

In the wake of Holt'z death, Pardon My Take's official account on X made a joke about how Ryan Day would be reacting to the news.

Day, famously, sparred with Holtz back in 2023, after the legendary Notre Dame coach accused Ohio State's teams of being soft.

College football fans not happy with joke

"Even Day would know this is distasteful. It was never that serious. Stop trying to have a moment and just offer condolences for one of the greatest coaches ever," one fan wrote.

"Disgusting to joke about this," one added.

"Not funny. Show some respect," one fan added.

"Absolutely showing no class for a CFB legend," one fan added.

"Classless," one shared.

Holtz's family, meanwhile, is appreciative of all the thoughts and prayers for the head coach on Wednesday.

May he rest in peace.
