Fernando Mendoza left no doubt that he deserved the Heisman Trophy in 2026, regular season or postseason.

The Indiana football quarterback put on another dominant performance in a XX-XX win over the Ducks in the College Football Playoff Peach Bowl semifinal on Friday, Jan. 9. Mendoza completed 17-of-20 passes for 177 yards and five touchdowns as the Hoosiers dominated from the opening kickoff.

In the first half alone, Mendoza had 110 passing yards and three touchdowns. He added an impressive 21-yard scramble in the third quarter, which helped the Hoosiers extend their lead to 42-7 to help put the game away early.

In the CFP, Mendoza has eight touchdown passes in two games to just five total incomplete passes. With his performance, Mendoza likely cemented his status as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. He is likely to be the No. 1 overall pick if he chooses to remain in the draft.

Indiana football is headed to its first-ever national championship in program history with the win over the Ducks.
